Why Choose Luokaiwei’s 904L Pipes?

Advantage Technical Benefit Cost Impact
Extreme Corrosion Resistance PREN ≥36 vs. 316L’s PREN 24; handles chlorides ≤60°C Reduces replacement costs by 70%
Acid Compatibility Resists sulfuric (≤50%), phosphoric, acetic acids Eliminates need for expensive nickel alloys
Non-Magnetic Stable austenitic structure (no cold-work magnetism) Critical for MRI/lab equipment
Weldability Low carbon (0.02% max) prevents carbide precipitation No post-weld annealing required
Bio-Pharma Compliance Passes ASTM A967 passivation; electropolishing ready Meets FDA/EMEA cleanability standards

Luokaiwei’s Manufacturing Process

  1. Material Sourcing: Virgin 904L billets from EU/Japan mills (Outokumpu, Nippon Steel)

  2. Pipe Formation:

    • Seamless: Hot extruded (OD 1/8"–24", SCH 5S–160)

    • Welded: TIG/Laser welded (OD 24"–60", wall 0.5–30mm)

  3. Solution Annealing: 1100–1170°C rapid quench

  4. Surface Treatment:

    • Pickling + Electropolishing (Ra ≤0.5 μm for pharma)

    • Bead blasting (#4 finish) for architectural use

  5. Testing:

    • Hydrostatic/Eddy current testing

    • IGC testing per ASTM A262 Practice E

    • PMI verification with EN 10204 3.2 certification

Fabrication Guidelines

  • Welding:

    • Filler: ER385 or ENiCrMo-3

    • Gas: 98% Ar + 2% N₂ (back purging mandatory)

    • Heat Input: ≤1.0 kJ/mm

  • Cold Working:

    • Bend radius ≥3× OD

    • Anneal after >15% deformation

  • Avoid:

    • Contact with carbon steel (risk of iron contamination)

    • Temperatures 550–850°C (sigma phase formation)

5 Critical FAQs

Q1: Can 904L replace Hastelloy in sulfuric acid service?
A: Yes for ≤50% H₂SO₄ at ≤40°C. Beyond this, use Hastelloy B-3. We provide corrosion test data for specific media.

Q2: Is 904L suitable for seawater applications?
A: Excellent for temperatures ≤60°C. For hotter chlorides (e.g., heat exchangers), upgrade to 6Mo alloys like AL-6XN®.

Q3: Do you supply pharmaceutical-grade electropolished pipes?
A: Yes. Our 904L pipes achieve Ra ≤0.38 μm, certified to ASME BPE-2022 standards with full traceability.

Q4: What certifications accompany your pipes?
A: Standard delivery includes:

  • EN 10204 3.2 Material Certificate

  • NACE MR0175 (Sour Service)

  • ASTM A312/A789 Compliance

  • Third-party PMI reports

Q5: How does 904L compare to duplex 2205?

Parameter 904L 2205 Duplex
Corrosion Resistance Superior in reducing acids Better in chlorides
Strength 220 MPa yield 640 MPa yield
Cost Higher (Ni/Cu content) 30% more economical
